After months of delays due to COVID-19 restrictions, Keishaun Julien will finally get his opportunity to perform for Sons of Steel. The PanoGrama 2021 winner touched down in Canada on Wednesday, and is ready to display his musical prowess at Sons of Steel: One Evolution tomorrow.
“It feels great to see this trip finally coming through! I am really excited to see what Canada has in store for me.”, Julien said. “I had no doubts about the trip. I knew from the start that COVID-19 restrictions may have impacted the timeline and it was just a matter of time before it was possible.”
Known widely for his covers on YouTube which have garnered well over one million cumulative views, Keishaun is looking forward to meeting his friends, family, fans, and students in Canada. He also has family and supporters in the US who are expected to travel to catch his performance.
He added “I am really grateful for this opportunity to perform in Canada, and I look forward to building my network there and leaving a lasting impression!”
The Sons of Steel concert was first hosted in Canada back in 2012 and was created around the sons of legendary pannist Earl la Pierre Snr. – Olujimi La Pierre, Noel La Pierre, and Earl La Pierre Jr. It also made it to the shores of Trinidad and Tobago over the years and has featured notable pannists such as Duvone Stewart and the late Ken ‘Professor’ Philmore.
Earl La Pierre Jr. expressed his happiness to finally fly Keishaun to Canada as part of his sponsorship agreement for PanoGrama 2021 and he looks forward to working with PanoGrama in the future.
“There are so many talented pannists around the world, and I am thankful for PanoGrama, through which we were able to meet and see some of the undiscovered musical talents”, he said.
Sons of Steel: ONE Evolution takes place on Saturday, July 23 from 7:00pm at the Tropicana Banquet Hall, and will also feature T&T’s Earl Brooks Jr. and Canadian Trenyce Sweeney in addition the the Sons of Steel, among other pannists.
